Rolling through Hyde Park: My Wheelchair Adventure.
Hyde Park. Just the name conjures images of sprawling green lawns, majestic trees, and the gentle buzz of London life. And for me, a wheelchair user, it’s also a fantastic place to experience the city’s natural beauty and vibrant atmosphere. Rolling though it can be quite and adventure.

Comparing the tarmac surface of the paths, to the surface’s I roll on locally, Hyde Park is a pleasure to expel some energy on. Propelling my wheelchair on the pot-hole free paths, using an efficient pushing technique I feel I can go for miles.

Last Saturday, armed with a fully charged battery and a sense of adventure, I decided to tackle Hyde Park. I love the freedom my wheelchair gives me, and exploring one of London’s most iconic parks felt like the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon.

Although I have visited Hyde Park before, for concerts and walking, or rolling, through it to get to other parts of the metropolis of London, every moment I enter, I’m always struck by the sheer scale of the place. The paths are wide and well-maintained, a dream for wheelchair users. No awkward bumps or sudden drops, just smooth sailing.

I met up with a mate at Marylebone Station and we made our way though town and entered the park from the Bayswater Road and onto North Cartridge Drive. Furthermore, there was lots of activity here with the setting up of the Winter Wonder Land tourist trap. Many many articulated lorries queued up with a a variety of goods on for the exhibition.

Following my mate, who has a good knowledge of the park, we made our way to Kensington Gardens. Carrying along several different paths, we passed the Albert Memorial and the Royal Albert Hall towards the Serpentine.

The way the light danced on the water was mesmerizing. I found a perfect spot to pause and just soak it all in, watching the pedal boats glide by. It’s moments like these, simple yet profound, that I truly cherish.

After continuing pushing up the side of Park Lane, a few lefts and rights, using different paths that Criss-crossed the vast green area we finally made it back to the Bayswater Road looking for a place for dinner.

Lastly, finding a quality Indian Restaurant in Queensway, I made my way back to Marylebone Station with a full belly.
